“We’re nomads. Wanderers”.
I’ll always remember this quote from Olga Gurlukovich, a fictional character from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. It reminds me of people who are always on the move and never try to settle in one place. I think of fast paced places, people on the go, lots of stories converging in the same place at the same time.
I’ve always loved airports because of this. Thousands of people, constantly moving between well-known places but not knowing what to expect in their place of arrival. Anything can happen: accidents, flight delays/cancellations, missing/stolen luggage, airport officers making your life impossible, dogs sniffing your crotch, prejudices, long waits, crappy meals at the airport terminal, tiredness. The underlying stories and reasons why you end up in a waiting line for a plane may vary: work, family reunion, personal errands, emergency flights, etc.
Being 30,000 feet above the sea level is the most relaxing thing about flying. Chaos awaits on the ground.
